Polls opened for the first time in Ave Maria Tuesday and Mary Stuller became the first resident to vote in person at the community center in town. Before the March 15 election, the closest polling place was in Immokalee.

The Collier County Commission has approved a half-million-dollar incentive package for further expansion at its Ave Maria manufacturing facility. The expansion will create 350 new jobs, bringing the total employment at Arthrex in Ave Maria to more than 1,000.

Donahue Academy student Joseph Cox won the Knights of Columbus state championship in the 13-year-old boys division of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw tournament. He qualified by winning the local competition at Donahue, then the regionals at Port Charlotte and finally the state title last weekend at Claremont, FL.
