Hybrids, a feature film written by Ave Maria resident Tony Schweickle and shot almost entirely in town, is scheduled for a local-area debut showing March 30 in Naples.
The movie, described as a "family comedy," won an award as best feature family comedy at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood and was screened recently at the Sedona Film Festival, where a reviewer called it "a campy and rib-tickling ninety-five minutes." Many Ave Maria residents appear as extras in Hybrids, which is about two teenaged siblings -- "hybrids" because their father is a vampire and their mother a witch -- who run away seeking a more normal life. Noted actor Paul Sorvino (below right) does a turn as the teens' grandfather, "The Count."
It will be shown in Naples at 7:20 p.m. March 30 at the Hollywood 20 cinema. Tickets will not be sold at the door and must be ordered in advance. A trailer for the movie and information on ordering tickets is here.
