The first graduates from the new campus who sat for the Florida bar in July passed at a rate of 64% according to results released Monday. The law school says that its incoming classes continue to get stronger, however, and Ave Maria recently became the first law school in the U.S. to agree to provide detailed post-graduate information to a fledgling group looking to compile better data on law school employment prospects.

Wilson Jeudy, mayor of one of the municipalities that make up the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, will be at The Bean Sept. 22 as part of a visit to southwest Florida. Mr. Jeudy will be available to answer questions about the earthquake rebuilding efforts as well as the Haitian elections later this year.

A strong Cape Coral Christian team overpowered the Donahue Academy Shamrocks 35-19 Saturday night in a sixman football game at North Park. The loss drops Donahue to 2-1 on the season while Cape Coral, an experienced team that fielded an 11-man squad last year, improved to 3-0. [full story updated]

The Naples Daily News says that a Federal Reserve report cites weak management as a major factor in the $349-million failure earlier this year of Florida Community Bank. The bank had planned to move its headquarters to Ave Maria before it ran into financial problems. The Naples Daily News reports that Florida Gulf Coast University President William Bradshaw and Jackson Lab COO Chuch Hewett have joined a "leadership council" formed in July to advise on the development of the proposed project. Ave Maria University has severed its relationship with the Home of the Mother religious community after learning of what it calls "immoral conduct" by the nun supervising the Women's Discernment program, which helps women determine if they are called to religious life. The four nuns and two priests on campus will be departing later this week, the university said.
