Sold Out Steak Cook-Off Caps Day of Fun in Ave Maria

Twenty-two grill teams served up 1,500 steaks Saturday at the 7th annual Sunshine State Steak Cook-Off in Ave Maria to close out a day of family activities. Steak Cookoff Draws Record Number of Grill Team Entrants

A total of 22 grill teams – from Ave Maria, southwest Florida and as far away as Arkansas and Texas – will be competing Saturday, Jan. 28, in the 7th annual Sunshine State Steak Cook-Off in the Ave Maria town center. This year, the cook-off follows an array of fun activities at the Great American Saturday event sponsored by Ave Maria Development.

Diocese of Venice Purchases Ave Maria Oratory Building

Ave Maria University has sold the iconic Ave Maria Oratory to the Diocese of Venice, the diocese announced Thursday. The building now becomes the Ave Maria Parish Church and the move makes Ave Maria a regular parish, and no longer a "quasi-parish." AMU and Ave Maria Development are also donating land for a parish hall and offices for parish activities. (above, a file photo of a procession outside the oratory)

Triathlon to Finish in Ave Maria Saturday

The HITS triathlon will finish in Ave Maria again this year, with cyclists coming through from the late morning to well into the afternoon Saturday, Jan. 7. The cyclists start in Naples, and traffic disruptions in Ave Maria are expected to be minor, as they were last year.
