 Potential competitors are already showing a significant amount of interest in the 2nd annual Sunshine State Steak Cook-Off in the Ave Maria town center in January, according to event chairman Tom Smith.  This young aligator was crossing Ave Maria Blvd. Tuesday afternoon, apparently ignoring the location of the crosswalk indicated by the pedestrian crossing sign. Or maybe he thought the sign applied just to people.

P aul Roney, who has been the chief financial officer for Ave Maria University since its inception, will be leaving that role at the end of the year, AMU President Jim Towey announced in emails to Ave Maria personnel. He'll be succeeded by current AMU Budget Director Gene Munin, who joined the university recently after serving as budget director for the City of Chicago.

The life of Jon Scharfenberger was recalled as one that was "richly lived, richly blessed, though far too short" at a memorial Mass for the former student pro-life leader. The young man, who graduated from Ave Maria University in May, died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident returning from a pro-life conference in Georgia.
