The Donahue Academy of Ave Maria has reached two major milestones, and is approaching another. The k-12 school has been approved as a fully accredited member of the Association of Independent schools of Florida, as well as earning regional accreditation through the Middle States Association. Headmaster Daniel Guernsey also said that the school, with the encouragement of Bishop Frank Dewane, also is seeking accreditation through the Florida Catholic Conference.

In one of the last vestiges of Ave Maria University's roots in Michigan, a jury in Ann Arbor has ruled that Ave Maria College violated a state law aimed at protecting employees who report wrongdoings to authorities. The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District board gave preliminary approval Tuesday to a proposed budget for the next fiscal year that is basically unchanged from last year and does not raise residents' assessments. The board also agreed to fund a proposal from consultants on a strategy for restructuring bonds that become due in 2012, and heard updates on a number of other matters. Collier Sheriff's deputies have closed their investigation into a suspicious incident involving a landscaper and a 10-year-old boy that occurred over the weekend in Hampton Village. Police and the boy's mother said that further investigation determined that the report arose from a misunderstanding.

The medical device manufacturer Arthrex has announced that it plans to build a large manufacturing facility that will employ at least 150 people at a site in Ave Maria off Oil Well Rd. Construction is hoped to start within a year, the company said in a statement.
