Ave Maria Resident Likely Will Begin Serving on AMSCD Board

The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District board of supervisors is expected to have a board member who is a resident of the town and not affiliated with AMU or the developers beginning after next Tuesday's scheduled meeting.
Terms of three of the five members of the board expire in November and one vacancy, for the seat currently held by Herb Cambridge, will be filled with a town resident, said Tom Sansbury, a Barron Collier vice president who also serves as the developers' representative to the board. The board members will be elected at a landowners' meeting following the regular meeting.
The way supervisors are elected to the special-purpose board, which deals with infrastructure matters such as roads, irrigation and landscaping, is that votes are determined by land ownership so the developers essentially control the votes until the residents own a majority of the land in the district. Expenses for the district are also allocated according to land ownership, so the developers also pay most of the annual budget.
Mr. Sansbury did not say who the new board member might be, but indicated the developers are considering a few different people. The other two board seats up for election this year are held by Doug Baird of Barron Collier and Paul Roney of Ave Maria University, both of whom intend to stay on the board.
In other business at the regular district meeting, the board will consider approving the creation of a design review board that will set and enforce standards for design of all non-residential property in the district. A revision to the district's regulations on golf carts, lowering the age of operators to 14 to comply with state laws, also is on the agenda.
The agenda is below, and detailed information on the landowners' meeting, explaining exactly how votes are allocated, is available in PDF format here.
The meeting is at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the fitness center in the town center and is open to everyone.
