Ave Maria University has announced the hiring of a new Director of Athletics following a national search.
The new athletic director, Kimberley King, starts this month, the university said in a news release.
Mrs. King has more than 20 years of athletic administration and coaching experience at the collegiate level and most recently has been the Assistant Athletic Director for Leadership, Counseling and Life Skills at the State University of New York at Binghamton, which plays in the NCAA Division 1. In her time at Binghamton, she helped the school transition from NCAA Division III.
Her positions at Binghamton also included Head Cross Country Coach, Assistant Track and Field Coach, Physical Education instructor, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic and Student Services, Assistant Athletic Director for CHAMPS Life Skills and Counseling, and Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. SUNY Binghamton, with an enrollment of more than 13,000 undergraduates, has 19 varsity sports although unlike AMU, it does not have a football team.
"Working at AMU is an extraordinary opportunity to combine the love I have for both athletics and my Catholic faith," Mrs. King said.
She takes the reins of the department this month.
AMU has 16 varsity-level sports programs with about 400 student athletes and a budget of $1.8 mllion.
