The concert Saturday evening will raise money for cancer research and will honor Miss Russo’s mother, who died of cancer almost a year ago, as well as two of her cousins who also were stricken with the disease. (pictured, Miss Russo and her mother, Janet Russo)
“I want to honor the memory of my beloved mother and family with this concert,” she said, “and being that this month is Breast Cancer Awareness month and November is Lung Cancer Awareness month, this concert will hopefully do just that.”
The event begins at 5 p.m., after AMU’s Homecoming football game, with dinner outside and inside the student union, and entertainment begins at 6 p.m. The concert, which will be on the north side of the student union, is free. Dinner for non-students is $7 with proceeds from the sale of food, drinks and t-shirts going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Lung Cancer Alliance.
Miss Russo (below) and her band will perform at 7 p.m., preceded at 6 p.m. by AMU freshman Jon Babineau and followed from 8-10 p.m. by AMU graduate Roman Samuels who has developed a following in the Naples area.
