Sloppy play in sloppy conditions led to a 32-26 loss for the Donahue Academy Shamrocks in a football game against Solid Rock in New Port Richey.
The relative inexperience of the Shamrocks showed, Coach Rich Scanlon said, after his team gave up a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. Wet, rainy conditions were also a factor, contributing to six turnovers on offense -- four interceptions and two fumbles -- plus two more turnovers on special teams.
Donahue has another long road trip next week when it travels to Clearwater to face undefeated Lakeside Christian Academy Friday.
Dominic Allan led the team with 12.5 tackles, 2 sacks, a forced fumble and a safety. Elias Allan completed 22 of 40 passing attempts for 270 yards, including three for touchdowns, and scored one rushing touchdown, but also was intercepted four times.
"The difference in this game was turnovers on offense and special teams, missed opportunities to score on the goaline and missed tackles on defense," said Coach Scanlon. "As a team we are looking forward to making adjustments and continuing to strive for excellence."
