Collier Family Farms Now Officially "Organic"

Collier Family Farms in Ave Maria now is officially an organic farm.

The farm, on 45 acres south of the Ave Maria town center, has been using organic and natural farming techniques since its inception, but required certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program before it could use the "organic" designation.

Collier Family Farms, located in Ave Maria, Florida, announces its official Certified Organic designation from the USDA National Organic Program. This organic certification verifies that Collier Family Farms passed standards requiring the integration of cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity, according to the National Organic Program (NOP).

"Receiving this certificate is a badge of honor of sorts," said Lara Collier of Collier Family Farms. "It lies at the core of everything we do here on the farm. Our belief is that the best food comes from local farmers who use only naturally occurring elements to fertilize, grow, and harvest, shying away from chemicals and pollutants."

The Collier Family Farms farmstand is closed for the summer and will reopen in the fall, when they also will offer a Community Supported Agriculture program in the fall. Details and registration are available at www.collierfamilyfarms.com.
