Residents Say Goodbye to Fr. Goodyear

fg2-350Almost 100 Ave Maria residents turned out Sunday afternoon to say goodbye to Fr. Michael Goodyear, who has been serving at Ave Maria University for the last three academic years.

The gathering to wish him well was organized by Ave Maria resident Tom Cunningham, who invited Fr. Goodyear to visit Ave Maria when he was "helping some priests transition out of the Legionaires of Christ."

"I arrived with my two suitcases and never left," Fr. Goodyear recalled. Right, Mr. Cunningham with Fr. Goodyear. Below, Fr. Goodyear greets Kathy and Rich Dittus.

The popular priest is in the process of incardination to the Diocese of Venice, and said he will be assigned to local ministry in the diocese later in the summer.

"It was a blessed time, a deeply spiritual time for my own priesthood," Fr. Goodyear told well-wishers at a reception at the Oasis Club in Del Webb.
