Traffic began moving Friday on what will be the westbound lanes of the two segments of the road currently being built. When completed, the three-mile segment between Immokalee Rd. and Everglades Blvd. will be four lanes and the four-mile stretch between Oil Well Grade and Camp Keais Rd. will be six lanes. The middle portion, between Oil Well Grade and Everglades Blvd., is on the county's list of projects to be completed when funds are available.

Groundbreaking for the $39-million project was in March, 2010, with completion expected to take about 18 months. Jeremy Arnold, an engineer with the Barron Collier Cos., says that the current work is expected to be done by the fall of 2012.

The original construction schedule can be seen here.
