Jim Towey's New Management Team Takes Shape

New President Jim Towey has reached back to his past at St. Vincent College to help shape the future at Ave Maria University.

eddie1Mr. Towey has announced that two key open senior management positions will be filled by people who had similar jobs at the Latrobe, PA, school. Dennis J. Grace, St. Vincent's VP of Enrollment and Marketing, will have the same title when he starts at AMU July 1, and Eddie Dejthai, who had similar responsibilities at St. Vincent, will become AMU's first Chief Information Officer. The new president also said he has one other key position to hire and will be searching for a person to run the university's development and fund-raising efforts. The long-time head of that effort at AMU, Carole Carpenter, will be assuming a new position as Special Assistant to the Chancellor, where she will help Mr. Monaghan personally with his nation-wide fundraising efforts on behalf of AMU.

"Carole has done a great job for Ave Maria for 12 years," Mr. Towey said. "With so much of Tom's work now involving fundraising for AMU, it made sense to have her work directly for him in that effort."

Mr. Towey credits both Mr. Grace and Mr. Dejthai for helping achieve much of the success he had at St. Vincent.

Mr. Grace, who also worked for Mr. Towey in the George W. Bush White House, "improved both the quality and the diversity of the incoming classes in every year" at St. Vincent, Mr. Towey said. "He speaks a dozen languages and understands  what needs to be done at a Catholic liberal arts college in admissions."

In addition to enrollment, Mr. Grace will have responsibility for all the university's marketing efforts, which Mr. Towey said needed to be consolidated. Deacon Forrest Wallace, AMU's current director of marketing, will have new responsibilities for conferences and events, Mr. Towey said, and also will be active in other university relations matters.

Mr. Towey also signalled the importance he believes technology will play in the future of AMU by creating a new position of Chief Information Officer. AMU's information technology efforts had formerly been part of the university's general operations department that also had responsibility for the physical plant and security.

New CIO Eddie Dejthai "brought St. Vincent's IT into the 21st century," Mr. Towey said.

"You can expect there to be improvements very soon with the internet and the AMU website," Mr. Towey said.
