The largest graduating class in Ave Maria University's history will don caps and gowns Saturday for the school's seventh graduation exercises.
Undergraduate degrees will be awarded to 130 students, plus 24 will receive Masters of Theology degrees and there will be one PhD conferred.
This year's graduating class is the first with students who attended all four years at AMU at its permanent campus in the town of Ave Maria.
The day's events begin with the Baccalaureate Mass at 9 a.m. in the oratory, with Cardinal William Levada (right) as the principal celebrant. Cardinal Levada, who serves as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, is the highest-ranking American prelate in the Vatican. Formerly the archbishop of San Francisco, Cardinal Levada was elevated to his current position by Pope Benedict XVI, who served as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith himself for many years before being elected pope.
Carl Anderson (left), Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, will be the speaker at commencent, which begins at noon in the field house.
Both Cardinal Levada and Mr. Anderson will be awarded honorary doctorate degrees and the university also will also honor Catholic philanthropist Patricia Crane Lynch with an honorary degree as well.
