Ave Maria University students and local Knights of Columbus served hundreds of breakfasts and raised money for local parishes Sunday at their first "Breakfast with St. Nick."
The event raised more than $700, which will be split between Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Immokalee and the Ave Maria quasi-parish, as well as receving donations of wrapped gifts for Immokalee children.
Town residents and AMU students breakfasted on pancakes and sausages and children were entertained in a crafts area as well as visiting with St. Nick.
AMU senior Jon Scharfenberger, who came up with the idea, said the event was a success that he hopes will become a tradition in Ave Maria.
"It was a great way for both university students and town residents to come together for a good cause," he said.
