The drinking water in the town of Ave Maria has been recognized as the best-tasting water in the state of Florida by the American Water Works Association. The Ave Maria Utility Company won the statewide award after Ave Maria's water was previously judged the best in Collier, Hendry and Lee counties.
Ave Maria's water now qualifies for consideration as the "best of the best" in a national taste test at the association's conference June 22 in Chicago.
"We consider this award to be a significant accomplishment,"said David Genson, director of the Ave Maria Utility Company. The town's water processing plant draws water from three wells and can currently treat 1.67 million gallons a day. It is designed so that it can be expanded to treat five million gallons a day.
