Ave Maria is known as a family-oriented community where kids are welcome and now the community has its first pediatrician to attend to those kids' medical needs.
Dr. Emily Walkey, a board-certified pediatrician, has begun welcoming patients from birth through their college years at the Braden Clinic in the Ave Maria town center.
Dr. Walkey worked as a primary care pediatrician in Wisconsin for more than six years before moving to Ave Maria where her husband teaches theology at Ave Maria University. They have three children.
Dr. Walkey says here areas of special interest include breastfeeding and lactation guidance and treatment of pediatric obesity. She offers complimentary "meet and greet" appointments for expecting parents and families looking for a new pediatrician.
Other services offered include: Well baby, child and adolescent exams, sports physicals, same day sick visits, vision and hearing screening, vaccine administration, management of chronic illness, lactation assistance, nutritional assessment and counseling and mental health visits.
