The Smooth Stone Foundation, based in Ave Maria, has released a CD of sacred choral music by Iberian composers to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fátima.
The CD, entitled "I heard a voice from heaven," was recorded under the direction of Timothy McDonnell, former chair of the Ave Maria University music department who now is director of choral activities at the Catholic University of America. The CD features nine pieces, five of which have never before been recorded.
"The music is a strong testimony to the depth of spiritual life in Iberia," Mr. McDonnell said in an interview. "We wanted a strong Marian theme and there is a strong emphasis in most of the pieces on the Virgin Mary," he said.
This is the second collaboration between the Smooth Stone Foundation and Dr. McDonnell. The first was a CD of choir music for Christmas that was completed for the Christmas season in 2015.
Proceeds from the sale of the CDs benefit the foundation, which Executive Director Joe Burke says is developing programs that promote ethics and virtue in business and society, help people discover the Christian tradition of art, music, literature and film, and foster and promote the work of Christian artists, writers, musicians and filmmakers.
CDs cost $25 can be purchased at the foundation's website at http://www.smoothstone.org/copy-of-voice-from-heaven.
