Long-time resident Robb Klucik won a seat on the board of the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District board Tuesday, becoming the first person elected to the five-member board in a popular vote election of all residents.
Mr. Klucik was one of the first residents of Ave Maria, moving to the town with his family in 2007. He handily won the election with about 68 percent of the 281 votes cast. Emerson Park resident Kyle Armstrong finished second with 70 votes and Maple Ridge resident Jeff Fennucio received 19 votes.
Mr. Klucik led the effort to convert the seat from one that was chosen by landowners according to how much property they own in town to one that is directly elected by popular vote. The other seats on the board will continue to be chosen in landowners elections and although a second seat might be converted in the next several years, it is uncertain when – if ever – the majority of the board will be chosen by residents.
Mr. Klucik will take his seat on the board at its next meeting Tuesday, May 6.
The AMSCD is a special-purpose board whose primary responsibility is infrastructure in Ave Maria including major roads, irrigation water and stormwater management. As an unincorporated area of Collier County, most governmental authority lies with the Collier County Board of County Commissioners.
