The Donahue Academy Shamrocks passed their toughest test of the young eight-man football season, beating a strong City of Life team from Orlando 52-28 at North Park in Ave Maria.
Trailing 14-7 in the second quarter, the Shamrocks roared back against a tough opponent.
Quarterback Elias Allan connected with Mark Cheffers for two touchdowns and threw for a total of 105 yards. He ran for two more scores, racking up 79 yards on the ground. JP Klucik and JP Allan each had rushing touchdowns, Sean Doman returned an interception to the end zone and Uriel Martinez returned a fumble for a touchdown.
"I was really proud of the way our team handled adversity in the first half," said Coach Rich Scanlon. "We showed our character by perseverning and coming away with a hard earned victory. This is a team we will face again, I am sure, in the playoffs. They always play us tough and deserve credit for their gameplan and athleticism."
The Shamrocks face another major challenge next week when they travel to Clearwater to take on Lakeside Christian. Donahue has never won a game on Lakeside's home field. "We look forward to the challenge," Coach Scanlon said.
