Donahue Wins Season Opener with 36-0 Shutout

The temperature in Orlando was scorching hot, and so was the Donahue offense Friday as the Shamrocks shutout Eastland Christian 36-0 in the opening of the eight-man football season.

"The game plan was to run and control the clock," Coach Rich Scanlon said, and the Shamrocks racked up 240 yards rushing behind the blocking of linemen Sean Doman, Thomas Donohue, Jimmy Deliso, Julian Diaz, Aidan Kelly and Mark Deliso and fullback Reed Lawe. Four players rushed for touchdowns -- Randy Beidelschies for two and JP Klucik, Elias Allan and JP Allan for one apiece.

The dominating defense also notched two safeties.

"For the first time in my tenure coaching at Donahue we did not throw a pass in the first quarter, Coach Scanlon said. "In fact, we did not throw a pass until less then two minutes remaining in the half. We ended the game with 3 completions for 18 yards."

The Shamrocks have a long road trip to Jacksonville for their next game against Seacoast Christian Academy. Then, after a bye week, Donahue plays its first home game at North Park Sept. 9 against First Coast Christian School from Jacksonville.
