The Ave Angels swim team placed third in the championships of the Paradise Coast Swimming Conference last weekend, out of a total of six teams competing, in just their third year of competition. And with a total of 1,500.50 points they were just 10.5 points behind the second-place team.
"I am so excited today that our swimmers are doing so well and broke so many personal records," said team founder David Leung. "Since we started the club three years ago, the swimmers are getting better every year. The top two teams are about double of our size and have been around the area for longer time. But we have a very balanced team with very good swimmers."
About 100 swimmers from age six to 18 participated in swim lessons and the swim team this year, with about 40 competing in the conference championships, Mr. Leung said.
"I am so happy that we were able to get so many children swimming," he said. "I really believe swimming is the best sport for children. It strengthens their core and endurance, has a very low injury rate, and the sport itself requires hard work and determination to succeed. It's a great sport for anyone to continue until they are 90's and beyond.
