Fr. Cory Mayer has been appointed pastor of the Quasi Parish of Ave Maria Oratory as of Nov. 2. He had been the parish administrator since coming to Ave Maria in 2013, replacing Fr. Robert Tatman, the parish's first pastor.
Fr. Mayer (left) has been an active part of the community since coming to Ave Maria and launched a successful fundraising campaign to establish a parish center in town. That project, he says, is waiting for final permitting from the county before the space will be built out at the corner of Annunciation Circle and Pope John Paul II Blvd., next to the parish office.
The Diocese of Venice also has appointed Fr. Eric Scanlan (below right), whose parents Brian and Veronique Scanlan live in Ave Maria, to succeed Fr. Mayer as the diocesan director of vocations. He had been the assistant director.
