The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District meeting scheduled for May 4 has been canceled, which normally happens when the board does not have matters before it requiring a meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 1 at 9 a.m. in the Master Association offices.
Wanderer Editor Alphonse Matt has published a "retraction and correction" and apologized for "false statements" about the possibility that abortion could be available in the town of Ave Maria, and for assertions that Ave Maria University "aggressively recruits" non-Catholics. The retracted assertions were found in articles written by town resident Marielena Montesino de Stuart.

Sunset on the Water, by Ave Maria University junior Julia Higgs, was awarded first place in the AMU Biology Department's Nature Photography Contest. Submissions were judged by a panel of Naples photographers. The winners and "judges' favorites" are on display on the second floor of the Henkels Academic Building.

A local Ave Maria community theater group will be presenting A Night on Broadway Saturday night, there are performances by the AMU choirs Friday and Sunday, and "Spring Fling" festivities are at the water park mid-day Saturday. Plus, the Ave Maria Law School is sponsoring talks in Naples by former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese and Fox News Channel founder Roger Ailes.

Ave Maria University has signed its first-ever football recruit, wide receiver Dan Mervos of Cooper City, FL, pictured above with Head Football Coach Barry Fagan (right) and assistant coach Brad Rumsey. The new football program is drawing much attention, but the athletics department has plans to add four other sports next year and six the year after -- plus a marching band.

A total of 125 dancers will perform more than 30 routines at the recital culminating the Ave Maria Dance Studio's second year. The film, produced by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, will have special screenings in Ave Maria this weekend for town residents and AMU students, staff and faculty. Mr. Gingrich and his wife will be attending a sold-out showing of the film in Naples Sunday sponsored by the Ave Maria law school.

The genetics research lab, if constructed, will be located off Oil Well Rd. at the southwestern edge of the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District, but will have a Naples, Florida, address, according to Blake Gable, of the Barron Collier Companies, which will donate the land.

The 4th Annual Ave Maria Student Film Festival will feature comedies, dramas and other short films -- all made by AMU students. Popcorn, drinks and snacks will be available at the popular event in the ballroom of the student union Friday night, April 9, beginning at 8 p.m. The event, is open to all, and more details are here.
Three poems by members of the Ave Maria community were recognized with the first Ave Maria Poet's Corner awards as part of this year's contest for poems written about The Annunciation. According to Marylin Krepf, chair of the poetry committee for The Festival of the Arts, the recognition is "not only for the excellence of their poems but also for their contribution to the art of poetry within the Ave Maria community." The winners were: Patricia Sette for The Power of the Most High Shall Overshadow You, Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J., for The Annunciation,and Michael Novak for The Lord God in Embryo.
