2 AMU Volleyball Players Receive Sun Conference Honors

vianna1Ave Maria University Volleyball players Adriana Vianna and Saira Morgan were honored at The Sun Conference tournament banquet Nov. 12 in Daytona Beach. There are 10 schools in The Sun Conference with volleyball membership.

Miss Vianna (right), a senior middle hitter/blocker from Sao Paolo, Brazil, made the 2009 All-Conference Team. She was one of just 12 players selected in the conference. This year, Miss Vianna started every game and led the team with 245 total kills. She also led her team with 49 blocks that was highlighted by two, 7 block performances (October 16th vs. Edward Waters College, October 31st vs. Warner University). The All-Conference romorgan1ster was voted on by the league head coaches.

Miss Morgan (left), a senior outside hitter from Anamosa, Iowa, was the recipient of the 2009 Champion of Character Award which is given to just one athlete among the 10 schools in the conference. Offensively, she averaged 1.54 kills per set, and defensively, she averaged .89 digs per set.  In addition to being the captain of the volleyball team, Miss Morgan also plays on the women's basketball team. As last year's basketball team captain, she  received the Gyrene Award given to the school's top athlete.

The AMU volleyball team was 6-12 in the conference, and 8-14 overall in their first year of conference membership.
