E19th-400very year, Ave Maria University offers students and town residents an opportunity to experience the dances and atmosphere of a grand ball of the 19th century. This year's ball is Saturday, Feb. 4, in -- suitably -- the AMU ballroom.

Each ball held for the last 12 years has a special theme and this one is "An Evening in Paris" and has food, music and dance relative to the 19th century. (left, a photo from the ball in 2014)

For those who might not be familiar with dances like quadrilles, contra dance, waltzes and polkas, expert instruction will be provided Thursday and Friday evenings from dance teacher and choreographer Cathy Stephens who has been guiding the event since the days when AMU was Ave Maria College in Michigan.

All are invited, and entire families have participated in the past.

A perspective on the ball by Ave Herald Editor Patricia Sette was published in a 2013 column in the Naples Daily News and is available here.
