Donahue Wins Opening Football Game

The Donahue Academy Shamrocks opened the 2015 football season in strong fashion, beating Geneva Classical of Lakeland Friday evening 25--13 at North Park in Ave Maria.

Anthony Altomari made a strong return from a season ending knee injury last season with 3 touchdown receptions and an extra point conversion catch. He had 168 yards receiving. Dominic Allan added a 40 yard TD reception. Quarterback Elias Allan was 13 for 25 for 208 yards and 4 touchdown passes.

Defensively, Dominic Allan had 20 tackles, 9 sacks and 4 assists, Sean Doman had seven sacks, six tackles for lost yardage and 15 total tackles. Mark Cheffers had an interception, two tackles, two assists and three pass defenses. Mark Scheck  caused fumble and JP Klucik had a fumble recovery, two tackles for losses, six tackles and two assists.

"I was proud of the leadership from the seniors and captains," said Coach Rich Scanlon. "Overall, it was a good start in less than ideal weather conditions."

The Shamrocks travel to Brandon next week to play FISH, then return to the field at North Park Sept. 11 to play Academy at the Lakes.
