Bishop Dewane Visits Ave Maria Youth Group Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 June 2010 18:37

This past January, a large contingent from the Ave Maria Youth Group cheered loudly for Bishop Frank Dewane when he was introduced at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. Last Sunday, Bishop Dewane thanked them with a special visit to their youth group meeting.

Youth group member Christine Lenardson of Bellera Walk submitted the following report on the meeting to The Ave Herald:

Youth Group Thrilled by Bishop's Visit

By Christine Lenardson

On Sunday, March 30 , Bishop Frank Dewane visited the Ave Maria Youth Group. After the formal installation of Father Tatman as pastor of the Quasi Parish of Ave Maria Oratory, Bishop Dewane enjoyed an evening of song, questions and cake with the 30 kids gathered at the Donahue Academy. When he first arrived the youth sang him the "Revelation Song" and then gave him a seat of honor where he could enjoy the slideshow prepared by youth group member, Andrew Guernsey.

The Bishop then answered the many questions from youth group members such as "How can you tell what God is calling you to do? What is the best way to connect with God? What inspired you to become a priest?" At the end of the evening he said he hoped that if each and every member of the Ave Maria Youth Group could take away just one thing from his visit, he wanted them to know that they were "made for more."

Bishop Dewane said he "truly believes the young people will be going places, life is valuable and the youth will be speaking out."

He told the students, "You should pray everyday, not only to get closer to God but to get closer to yourself, to know your Catholic Identity, which is who you are in your heart."

The youth groups members were excited and grateful for the bishop's visit and promised to be marching again with him in Washington next year.

Below, Bishop Dewane poses with youth group members outside the Donahue Academy.
